We came, we saw, we conquered. That would have been a great way to announce to the world that the Buffalo Bills upset the New England Patriots. The stage was set, MNF and the Buffalo Bills came to play. For 58 minutes we were winning! Until CB Leodis McKelvin decided that he’d run a punt return out of the end zone with 2:04 remaining on the clock, a 7 pt. lead and the Bills holding on to 3 time outs. TRAGIC!! He was stripped of the ball, the Pats gained possession and Tom Brady hits Ben Watson for a TD and the win. But I’m getting ahead of myself…let’s go back for a minute.
QB Trent Edwards played the best game of his young career passing for 212 yards and 2 TDs. He was calm under pressure, distributing the ball amongst the receivers. Offensive Coordinator Van Pelt didn’t buy into the media’s hype and try to force feed the ball to Terrell Owens. I thought the plan of attack was brilliant. Use TO as a decoy and allow the rest of the offense to do its thing. RB Fred Jackson is worth every dollar and more. With the absence of Marshawn Lynch, he carried the ball with authority resulting in 57 hard earned yards. I promise you, it seemed like more. The Bills were dictating the flow of the game!!
The front four applied pressure on Tom Brady, keeping the normally cool and calm QB on his heels and flat on his back. DE Aaron Schobel, who missed games last year due to injury, intercepted the ball and ran in back for a TD. We had all the momentum, even when the Patriots scored…the Bills were in control.
I was so proud, I was feeling good but the clock hadn’t stroke 0 seconds. I literally held my breath and for good reason. Leodis McKelvin…leodis, leodis, leodis!!!!
Whyyyyyyyy?!?? My heart sank…my stomach HURT! After a few choice words, I went to sleep. I was emotionally spent and physically ill. That was a hard loss to swallow. But...in the agony of defeat, there’s a lesson to be taught. I betchu money he won’t try that ish again. The Bills needs to manage the game much better. The time of possession was very lopsided. Watch the penalties and continue to spread the ball around. I seen something special last night and I can’t wait until Sunday. I love my Bills…win, lose or draw!!
