Sunday wasn’t filled with too much football for me. My girlfriend was here from out of town so my morning consisted of Roscoe Chicken and Waffles and shopping on Melrose but thank goodness for TiVo! After I saw her off, I watched Tony Romo trick off my Fantasy score, got my kids to bed, finished my homework and stretched out ready to watch the game. Coming off a bitter sweet loss to the Chargers, it was time we head to Kansas City to take care of business with the Chiefs. Before I saw the Raiders schedule I predicted them to be an 8-8 team. After watching them play and looking at the schedule, by the time I was done scribbling Ws & Ls I had them 11-5. My prediction for the chiefs would later become fact as the Raiders won 13-10. The win wasn’t as pretty as I would have liked for it to be ending the 1st half 3-3 and entering the 4th with a 9-3 lead but nevertheless it was a mark for the W column.JaMarcus Russell right now seems to be our weakest link. He does not have the accuracy we need him to have keeping us from jumping on the board early and finishing strong. We had entirely too many 3 and outs and that’s nothing but Russells inability to see the bulls eye on his WR chest. The receivers are there and the run is on point. Seymour has given us a boost on the other side of the ball and you can tell as we get better defending the run. Seymours presence must be rubbing off because the players are stepping up individually and are looking better as a whole. Michael Huff that didn’t have 1 interception last year now has 3 in 2 weeks. Looks like Huff could be saying ‘Thank you kindly’ often, if he keeps it up. Nnamdi as always was a beast on the field & even with a broken wrist had huge plays for us. With some of our guys banged up, we still came out to play, applying pressure to Cassel and making plays. Now it’s JaMarcus who needs to step it up 6 notches.
Our defense was holding us down but that would change in the remaining 2:38 in the 4th. A 29 yard pass with less than 3 minutes in the game had me waking up the whole house. I’m screaming what the hell is wrong with John Marshall? The next two plays, I’m yelling ‘oh hell no’ a pass from JaMarcus was almost picked off and then a penalty on Miller. A pass to Murphy had me relaxed and as soon I thought I could breathe easy the catch Heyward-Bey could have taken the house was called back because of a false start, giving us 1st and 15. With 2:10 remaining JaMarcus was sacked but we were redeemed with a rougher the passer call. 1st down! These 2 minutes was worse than the 2 minutes of the Chargers game for me. A third false start in this drive had me hotter than fish grease. Janikowski won’t do anything for us with KC up 4. We needed a score and Todd Watkins came up BIG for us with a 1st down. The next play I jump up, trying to hold my composer because it was late and people were sleep but TOUCHDOWN MCFADDEN!!!!!!! Because I couldn’t scream I did I light stomp around my bed twice with my face cringed and fist balled…yes! it’s that serious for me! JaMarcus is killing me though. He can’t wait until the last 5 minutes of the 4th quarter to make something happen. It doesn’t always work and you would think he would have remembered that from last week. Now it’s time for us to kick off, do we make the same mistakes we did in the Charger game or will the defense make a stand? SAAAAAAAACK courtesy of Greg Ellis. 4th and 4 for the Chiefs. I’m on the edge of my bed hella nervous and Cassels pass is deflected by …..Michael Huff, turnover on downs. GAME O-V-A.I’m happy about this win. I’m happy about this new Raider team. I’ve been faithful to my Raider Jersey but I think I’m going to have to let go of my old love #24 Woodson for I have found a new love in #18 Murphy. To me he’s like Woodson was, hungry out there and ready to make plays, I’m excited to see what he can do out here… See ya next week in Denver. While I don’t ever predict scores I do predict a win for the Silver and Black!
