So the Jets won on Sunday. This wasn't entirely unexpected by me, but to listen to the pundits on NFL preview shows, Houston was about to have their "coming out party" against my team, and pick up right where they left off last season when they strung out 6 wins in a row.Evidently the memo didn't get to the Jets before they got on the plane, and instead, an old fashioned ass whipping is what the texans got. I enjoyed (almost) every second of it.
Matt Schaub looked like Mark Sanchez was predicted to look-hurried, indecisive, not mentally alert. Andre Johnson should have probably just stayed in, and after all the hype on Steve Slauton...yeah...a whole entire 17 yards rushing. Jokes. The best part of all of this? The Jets defense was actually missing arguably their two best players, Orlando Pace & Shaun Ellis. The remaining players went out and shut Houston down, holding them to just 258 yards of total offense, including two fumbles, two sacks and an interception.
Of course, the offense showed up as well and the 1-2 punch of Leon Washington and Thomas Jones really came alive in the second half, with Jones breaking loose for a 38 yard touchdown run. Mark Sanchez had a solid afternoon in spite of being picked off once, he went 18/31 with 272 yards and a touchdown pass to Chansi Stuckey.
Overall? All good. I'm actually excited to see what they do against the Patriots next week. This is definitely not the same bunch who looked anemic down the stretch and didn't even make the playoffs. Lets hope it continues. A good football team? Kind of like scoring a pair of Jimmy Choo boots, on sale, in season. Joy
