Recap: Green Bay Packers defeat the St. Louis Rams

Posted by Pigskin Loving Lady on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at 9:50 AM
Week 3, the Green Bay Packers defeat the St. Louis Rams bringing us to 2-1. There were things about the Packers performance that really excited me. There were also potential problems that may keep us from getting to the big show. Lets start with what excites me!

    1. THE PACKERS DEFENSE- The Packers D-Line was ON. #74 Johnny Jolly (allow him to reintroduce himself) was BEASTING! He was blocking kicks, recovering the ball and smashing. He was cheated out of an interception which the refs ruled a fumble recovery, but we’ll take it. Rookie L.B. Matthews out of USC made us Angelinos proud with his defensive contributions. Charles Woodson showed his haters that he’s still in his prime, with interceptions game after game. Aaron Kampman sacks Rams QB Marc Bugler in the 1st quarter and Bugler left the game with a bruised shoulder. This set an early tone and shook up Boller, Buglar’s replacement, letting him know, “We aint no busters, and we came to play.”

    2. THE PASSING GAME- Watching Aaron Rodgers beautiful chemistry with Donald Driver and Greg Jennings reminds me of my FAV Packer team of the late 90’s. I almost felt like I was watching Favre with Antonio Freeman and Robert Brooks. Rodgers rarely over throws and Driver and Jennings treat that ball like the soap in prison. Driver made an “OMG catch” in the 1st half. He caught the ball with only the finger tips of one hand and held on to it in that one hand all the way to ground. Gotta love these guys.

    3. RYAN GRANT-He is really starting to turn me on. No, it’s not because of his aggressive, cute little yellow face. It’s his consistency and strength. I got another 90’s flash back because Grant was pounding through the Rams D-Line taking major hits getting 5 to 10 yards at a time just like Dorsey Levens used to. He also came through with the big drives when we needed them.

    4. Last but most importantly, AARON RODGERS- When Favre was still repping the Green and Gold and he’d get hurt, I always had faith that we could start Aaron Rodgers as QB and win games. I always knew he’d make a great leader when Favre left and so far, I was right. Aaron Rodgers is efficient, smart, and great leader for his team. I loved his 4th quarter rush for the 1st and goal and then the TD on the very next play. He clowned in the in zone too!

    Now for the concerns.

    1. The BIGGEST PROBLEM: KICK OFF/PUNT RETURNS-Though the Packers scored on just about every possession, we were forced to kick field goals too often. The Reason-Corner Will Blackmon isn’t getting us any yards on return. His biggest returns are no more than 20 yards. We usually start off in bad field position and have to move the ball too far up field running out of downs and having to kick the field goal. The positive is that Kicker Mason Crosby can handle it and get us 3 although we’d like 6.

    2. THE SACKS-Aaron Rodgers finds a new butt buddy to continuously throw him in the ground each game. This week it was the Rams Leonard Little. Defense is doing a great job at giving A Rod time to throw the ball. Its up to him to get it off.

If we can handle that, you just might see us at the BOWL!

NEXT WEEK IS FAVRE and the VIKINGS!!!! BRING EM OUT, BRING EM OUT.
