What a way to start the season! The Who Dat nation definitely had a reason to celebrate as the Saints won 45-27 over the Lions. It wasn’t a shock to most Saints fans, because when the Saints are home, we rock the Dome. ‘Nuff said. Although the game looked a little shady at times, the Saints were able to maintain a healthy lead and start the season 1-0.The Saints looked excellent in the first half, being that the first touchdown celebration came early in the first quarter. A second touchdown soon followed, giving the Saints a 14-0 handle on the Lions. Getting a little relaxed during the course of the game, Saints defense slipped a bit, left gaps here and there but quickly realized their mistakes and were able to clean them up. Overall, I give defense a B- and offense an A. Looked good, but there’s always room for improvements.
Let’s check out a few stats, shall we?

Good looks for the team:
Our captain, the one who makes it happen: QB Drew Brees. Brees had a total of 358 yards and six touchdowns. Simply amazing. I’ll have to admit, I was a little doubtful. (Shocking right?) I didn’t think he’d be able to have another year filled with big numbers; but at the rate he’s going, he’ll be able to put up bigger and better record-breaking numbers, even better than last season.
RB Mike Bell. Wow. His performance was awesome, and his change of attitude is evident. With the last team, he admits that he let himself go on purpose. This season, he’s hungry and proving why he’s here.I have to give my props to WR Lance Moore! He’s back in a big way. Moore made several great catches. The way Brees connected with him was amazing, and he didn’t seem to be fazed by his shoulder surgery that took place earlier this year. He’s definitely a reliable receiver who will do great things during the season.
He seems to have the potential to be apart of each blog I’m going to write this season: WR Robert Meachem. Compared to last season, Meachem looks better than ever. I reflect on the days of his rookie year where he was marked ‘inactive’ each game. I held out, praying for the day when he’d be a beast on the active roster. So far, he hasn’t let me down one bit! Not sure why I place so much trust in him, but I’ll keep on just as long as he keeps making the Who Dats of NOLA proud.
S Darren Sharper. That man is wonderful. Being the veteran that he is, he has the experience and is proving that he still has more to give. 2 INTs in the first game leaves me wanting to see more of what he can do. Smart move by the front office. I love it!
TE Jeremy Shockey. Shockey has already doubled his touchdowns from last year, and I’m expecting a lot more from him this season. He may be little hot-headed at times, but what football player isn’t? Doesn’t stop a thing just as long as he can talk and have the means to back it up!
*Side note: In order for Mike Bell not to burn out so quickly, we need our Pierre Thomas! Thomas remains questionable for now due to a knee injury, but we’re keeping the faith and awaiting his return. Reggie is there, but then again, Reggie is not there. He’s still getting into the swing of things. Emotions seem to get the best of him and leave him frustrated after plays. Don’t stress, Reggie. We’ll give you time.
Who dat say they gon beat them Saints?! Hopefully no one this year! I’ve been a believer since birth, no reason to stop now. Who dat!
