This was an interesting week for the Niners. Coming off a bye week, the Niners needed a win against a Texans squad that people aren't too sure what to make of them. They also needed to prove that last game against the Falcons was a fluke. They didn't get the win but they did show resiliency in coming back from 21 down to make it a three point game.
There were two pluses in this loss: Michael Crabtree and Alex Smith. Crabtree had 5 catches for 56 yards. NFL RedZone is the best because they showed his first catch and some others during halftime of the games. He wasn't phenomenal but he was serviceable in his first game. As long as he doesn't get hurt, he can make an impact for the team.
Alex Smith replaced Shaun Hill in the second half and showed why he was the number one pick once upon a time. He threw 3 touchdowns, all to Vernon Davis, and only one pick. Singletary decided to make Smith the starter for the next game. We'll see how long he can produce as the started.
Defense and the running game both need to be improved before the next game. This was Gore's first game back since he went down in week 3 with a sprained ankle. He still has to get back into the game mentality. The defense has to play better in order to keep games close going forward. The next few games are going to be tough. 3 of the next 4 are against teams over .500. Let's get it going Niners!!!!
