Football is so not at the front of my mind today. I have been on cloud nine since the Yankees punched their ticket to the World Series last night. Good news is good news regardless though-and the good news for the Jets? They finally snapped their three game losing streak yesterday. Of course they did it against the Raiders-but a win is a win right?
Losing Leon Washington for the rest of the season to a broken leg was certainly not what the doctor ordered-especially after losing Kris Jenkins for the season in last week's loss-but what can you do? On the bright side, young Shonn Greene and Calvin Pace played great yesterday, as did the nose tackle committee sent to replace Jenkins. Hopefully Greene's confidence is boosted enough for him to believe he can play well as the season goes on against real teams-they will really need him.
The best part? Mark Sanchez didn't turn the ball over once! Maybe there is something to him and playing well only when it's warm outside. He went 9/15 for 149 yards, a rushing TD and no interceptions-much better numbers than he has put up in the past few weeks. I want to believe he has turned a corner, but again-they played (and shut out) Oakland.
I found it particularly humorous when all ten Raider fans cheered Jemarcus Russell being pulled for Gradkowski. Lets see how long that lasts-everyone loves the backup until he proves why he's the backup. So much for all those playoff aspirations Richard Seymour was talking about last week.
It works for me...a nice confidence booster for next weeks rematch against Miami. Pray for warm weather. I am.
