Yet another Sunday afternoon spent watching a team with so much potential shoot itself in the foot play after play. If it's not one unit that falls down, it's another. I know, I should be used to this by now, but I can't help but feel slighted by the fraudulent promise of a perfect start that has now gone the way of a 1-4 slide that includes three division losses and two of the most important players on the team gone for the season with injury. The defense actually played well-if by well you mean giving up way too many points in the third quarter. The did manage to hold the wildcat somewhat in check, and the two big runs Miami had didn't amount to points on the board.
The offense wasn't completely terrible, and they were actually in a position to win with less than five minutes to go. Of course a rookie quarterback will find a way to ruin even that, so what can you really do?
No, this one came down to special teams-which went from having somewhat decent success on the year to allowing two of the longest kick returns in NFL history happen within a span of ten minutes.
All credit to Ted Ginn on those runbacks too. They were incredible, but when they came against my team and pretty much created all manner of trouble, it made them excruciating to watch. Then there were the missed 2 point opportunities, complete with ticky tack flags, and non reviews. Just bad.
They're going into a bye this week thank goodness, and I'm fine with that. Maybe it will give me time to readjust my attitude and learn to accept things as they come. Or maybe I'll just take the Sunday to have brunch and jump right back into expecting them to win every week no matter what. I have a 27 year track record of that. Oh well.
