According to the Twins: The REAL reason behind the Vince Young benching

Yvette: So 1 week later, news about the REAL reason Fisher benched Vince Young comes out.

Yvonne: In an article in the Tennessean, there was a small blurb stating that Young missed a meeting and/or arrived late to at least two meetings in week the Titans loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. According to the report, Young was not putting in enough prep work for Steelers' style, aggressive defense. This is what really led to coach Jeff Fisher benching him for veteran Kerry Collins

Yvette: Now this was what I thought Fisher’s rationale could have been, given Vince’s track record. And this would be a completely justified reason for benching VY.

Yvonne: Right, he wasn’t prepared and was lackadaisical, because of his great performance in Week 1. So benching him would be understandable.

Yvette: But still, I have several questions about the timing of this “leaked” version of the story.

Yvonne: Me too…It seems rather fishy, Fisher.

Yvette. Exactly! First off, why now? Why 1 week later? Why give this side of the story after a great performance by Vince Young and the Titans?

Yvonne: I agree, to me it seems as if this is a CYA situation…

Yvette: Fisher was being massacred on talk radio and blogs all week for prematurely and unfairly benching VY for the awful showing in Week 2. Maybe the sources felt the need to prepare for the inevitable questions?

Yvonne: I think that’s exactly the reason. Given his Week 1 and Week 3 work, one would have to question:
WHY would coach not allow Vince to take his lumps, work it out or possibly make one of his signature comebacks?
Given the fact that last season after Kerry Collins went 0-6, before VY saved them, why wouldn’t he let him be? All he is in 14-3 in his last 17 games.

Yvette: Right! Furthermore, Vince was EXCUSED by the team to attend a breakfast at the school of the late Steve McNair’s sons. If he was late getting back or missing a meeting, fine. And if he was ill-prepared for the upcoming game, OK. Why do you start him? “Sources” are saying Fisher was “covering” for VY.

Yvonne. To say, Fisher didn’t give the TRUE reason for the benching was to cover for VY is BS in my opinion. The act of benching him, was throwing him under the bus!

Yvette: If Vince has not matured enough to know that he can’t be late to meetings and too arrogant to know that he HAS to prepare for a team like the Steelers, and too DENSE to realize he was skating on thin ice, then he deserves to be benched. But for the Titans office to start a whisper campaign NOW, 1 week later, after a great win, seems extremely self-serving.
