I was so excited a few days ago. I had tickets to the Jets opening game, Jos and Reeta were coming up, and everything seemed great.
Well you know, except for the whole, ?the Jets couldn't even score in pre-season, what the hell are they going to do against the Ravens?" thing.
I pushed it to the back of my mind. Why couldn't they back up all the trash they've been talking over the summer and in camp? It could happen right? Right?
After Flacco was crunched in the first series I thought it might. Until the offense took the field, and engaged in what can only be described as a failure so epic that even the most resilient of Jet fans were left shaking their heads after the game.
The Jets had a total of 176 yards of offense, and 125 penalty yards. What part of the game is that? Most of these yards came on the ground, as Mark Sanchez and his check down first mentality only accounted for 60 passing yards. Of course there were two big drops by Braylon Edwards, and even I was entertained by the hit/drop Ray Lewis put on Dustin Keller, but damn, 60 yards? Total? Not good.
At first I thought it was a little weird that the offense didn't get the same intro as the defense when the game started, but then again, they knew what they were dealing with a lot better than I did.
A tough loss anyway. Cromartie was left to deal with all manner of trouble in the form of TJ Houshmandzadeh and Anquan Boldin, and chose to use his hands rather than trust his skills. In spite of the ridiculous penalties, and the loss of Kris Jenkins for the second season in a row, the Ravens offense was held to ten points.
It would be nice if they got themselves together on offense and could compete with New England on Sunday. You know, since there was so much trash talking about this team as well, but after Monday's performance, I just can't see it.
