The NFL has had a noticeable upswing in the number of greats that are retiring, making for a very interesting 2021 Hall of Fame contest. Today, Detroit Lion’s star WR Calvin Johnson followed in the footsteps of Peyton Manning, Marshawn Lynch, and Charles Johnson, as he announced that he has played his last game of football. Over a 10 year career, “Megatron” has made $113 million dollars. That isn’t too shabby for a 30 year old man. He is also leaving $67 million dollars on the table and giving the Detroit Lions plenty of cap space.
Ironically, or not, Barry Sanders also retired from the NFL and Detroit Lions at the ripe old age of 30. Both Sanders and Johnson hold records within their team and the NFL, Calvin Johnson with a whopping 15.
Calvin “Megatron” Johnson will be missed. His size and physical ability was unmatched. He is a great guy who was a hell of a lot of fun to watch, even if he was catching the ball in triple coverage on your favorite team.
